The Farm Tour
A landcruiser trip to the top of the farm and back. The farm track takes you over dramatic coastal scenery with views to Gisborne and over the Mahia Peninsula. It then leaves the coast to head through 'Longbush' Native Reserve to the 'High Basin'.

The Longbush QE11 Trust Reserve
There are views over a second native bush reserve and if it is clear one can see Te Mata Peak in Hawkes Bay. Farm life will be explained in detail as we drive through paddocks of sheep, cattle and goats.

Fresh Water Crayfish and Glow Worm Trip
An after dark landcruiser trip to the 'Long Bush' Native Reserve where we walk with torches up a little creek. The pools have numerous fresh water crayfish and the creek banks are lined with glow worms.
The River Trip
A landcruiser trip will take you to the river. The river is on the back boundary of Te Au, 10kms from The Quarters. It is a small river which comes out of the forestry and winds through bush clearings. There are deep pools and long sections of shallow rapids. The pools are great for swimming with grass banks to relax on and rocks to jump off. It is very private, the only intruders being our Hereford cows and calves. The Totara trees are full of bell birds.
Down river on one boundary is 'The Viaduct' - a very impressive railway bridge. This is the Southern Hemisphere's biggest continuous concrete pour and was built in the 1940s. On the other boundary up river, is a monument to 22 railway builders who lost their lives in a flash flood. Part of the track down to the river is steep and can only be driven when the track is dry. If this is so guests may have to walk the last 2km. We can collect you later in the day or you may like to walk the 10kms home at your leisure.

The Trout Fishing Trip
The river is full of rainbow trout with 5 or 6 in each pool. The river is fly fishing only with a strict catch and release policy. The river has no public access so is only fished by our friends and guests. It is very private and wonderful fishing. Rods and flys may be hired and a guide is available. We can drop you out there by prior arrangement, in the landcruiser and collect you if required.
You may have to walk the last 2km if the track is wet.
Fishing
There are other good fishing spots a short drive away. You can hire rods and gear.
Pheasant Shooting
The Quarters is now offering walk up wild pheasant shooting at Te Au in Hawkes Bay. This is some of the best wild pheasant shooting available in New Zealand. Birds are not released, they are hatched and grown in the wild. Our emphasis is on small groups of hunters and a genuine pheasant hunting experience with pointers or spaniels flushing birds from a variety of cover. We work closely with landowners to develop the pheasant and wildlife habitat on their farms. Your guide will take you to selected locations to maximise your shooting success.
The Walks
Two walks are marked out for you to enjoy. One takes you to the top of the farm with views over the Mahia Peninsula and Te Au Farm. This is a 2 hour return walk.
The second takes you 10km to the river at the back of the farm. Here you may swim and relax on the banks. It is very pretty with pools and rapids winding through bush clearings. A short walk down river takes you the railway viaduct. There is an information page to take with you.

The Rock
A short but steep walk takes you to the 'Rock'. This is characterised by sandstone shapes and caves. A seal or two are resident in winter. There are ledges to jump into the sea as high as you dare. It can be good fishing.
